New York EMDR Therapy Online

Dianne Gallo, LCSW

I provide EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) therapy online throughout New York State.

EMDR is a research-backed therapy method designed to help you overcome the lasting effects of:

  • PTSD

  • interpersonal violence

  • sexual assault

  • adverse childhood experiences

  • phobias

EMDR: Neuroscience's Path to Recovery

EMDR therapy is a comprehensive approach grounded in neuroscience that addresses trauma by helping your brain process past experiences. This transformation leads to a significant decrease in the emotional intensity of traumatic memories, helping your mind, body, and emotions to find peace and connection once again.

What Does EMDR Help Relieve?

Initially developed for PTSD, EMDR has proven effective in helping those experiencing:

  • anxiety

  • panic attacks

  • depression

  • grief & loss

  • eating disorders

  • phobias

  • addictions

  • & more

My goal with EMDR therapy is to help you process and release traumatic thoughts and feelings.

Research shows EMDR reduces intrusive thoughts, dreams, and flashbacks stemming from trauma. It helps you let go of old, upsetting events that are causing you to feel stuck. EMDR therapy teaches your brain to take a more objective and resilient perspective, changing feelings of being powerless or fearful into feelings of being safe and having agency in your life.

Working with EMDR Together

Studies show EMDR can reduce or eliminate PTSD symptoms in fewer than 10 sessions.

We will work together during EMDR therapy to use bilateral stimulation so we can reorganize how traumatic memories are stored within your brain.

8 Phases of EMDR Treatment With Me:

History Taking and Treatment Planning: This initial stage involves understanding your background, identifying potential traumatic memories for treatment, and tailoring the therapy plan to your specific needs.

Preparation: We will have an introduction to the EMDR process and I will share coping strategies you can use if at any point you feel overwhelmed.

Assessment: Together, we will identify the memories, beliefs, emotions, and bodily sensations that you would like to focus on for reprocessing.

Desensitization: We will use bilateral stimulation, such as tapping, for reprocessing.

Installation: You will integrate the positive beliefs and new associations in relation to the targeted memory, replacing the negative beliefs.

Body Scan: I will ask you to scan your body for residual tension or discomfort, allowing for the processing of any remaining physical trauma responses.

Closure: Using grounding techniques you will be brought back to the present and ensure you are feeling calm, grounded, and present.

Reevaluation: At the start of following sessions, we will check your progress, ensuring that the positive effects have been maintained and determining if further reprocessing is needed, potentially identifying new areas that require attention.
